Who(se) Grave? It is our habit as Indonesians to visit cemeteries for pilgrimage right before Ramadan (Islamic fasting month). A burial site on Tanah Kusir public graveyard, South Jakarta (31/07), was left unkept and filthy in the middle of neat and tidy rows of graves. “It is their payment obligation that is unkept”, must be the excuse of the management. It portrays how we bring the concept of landownership, and therefore rent, literally, to the grave. Nuning Soedibjo | Agustus 2011
